Mission Statement

Hi Peeps!

How are all my preshuss birbs doing? I hope you’re handling things well, caring for yourself, and not freaking out too much. I hope some of you got your political fire back and ready to kick some ass. I can’t join you physically, but I’m an excellent cheerleader, who will try her best to keep your spirits up.

I’m doing okay, though slightly less cheerful than I used to be. I’m also a little tired, and dealing with family health issues, which is why I haven’t been posting as often. But my mojo is fine. I ain’t going nowhere yet.

I know I haven’t spoke much about politics here. Like everyone else, I was reeling from the election of what is the most unqualified person to ever win the Presidential office. In every human characteristic, this “being” is the very opposite of Obama, and that in itself would be appalling, but he also brought with him a huge basket of deplorable people, looking to cash in  on the ignorance of his position. Them, and the tide of social bullies following in their wake, are the ones who are truly terrifying, not just to me, but to any sane person. That’s why I won’t be dwelling on them here. But, I will post insults and humor at the deplorable’s expense. I feel that’s a good use of my superpowers.

I’m also going to continue to do what I’ve been doing. Examining  the intersection of race, gender, and Pop culture here in America, geeking out about the nerdy shit that gives me even a little bit of joy, and providing a safe space for women, lgbtq, and PoC to express their joy and delight in geek culture (or sometimes just rant), without worrying about entitled dudebros swanning in and trying to humiliate, gaslight, intimidate, and insult them.

I’m reminded of a conversation at the end of Angel’s series, between Gun and Anne, a local social worker. He asked her what she would do if she found out that the situations she works with would never change, because forces larger and more powerful than her, want to keep things the way they are. Her response was that she would keep doing the work she’d been doing.

Like Angel said, “When it doesn’t matter what you do, ALL that matters is what you do.”

I’m going to keep moving forward and you’re welcome to come along. I’m not going to allow this to take away my joy. And I’m no going to allow this situation to take away yours either. People deserve to have joy, even if its something as trivial as geeking out about Idris Elba, anticipating that new TV show, or expressing exasperation at fandom shenanigans.

This blog is a safe space for marginalized people. And hey, straight, cis-gender, white guys are welcome here too, as long as they act like they would in my house. Just bring your manners and some consideration for others. As long as people keep in mind that visiting a blog is like visiting someone’s parlor, (only the discussions  can be overheard by the public), then you’re good company. If you wouldn’t do it in your grandmother’s house, then don’t do it in mine (although cussin’ is okay.)

If you got a beef, with a bit of pop culture, you can air it here. You wanna celebrate something, lemme know. During Black History month, I’ll post about that. During Pride month, I’ll post some significant items that may be of interest then. During Asian Pacific Islander month, I’ll signal boost. This is a platform that will only ever be used for good.

But most of all, this blog will be a place for people to decompress, to worry about something else for a while, have a touch silliness, and maybe a little depth.

And now for some classic geekery:

Ahhh, Ren & Stimpy. Now I have to go break out my DVDs. 😁

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been dealing with some personal issues. I was sick for a few months, and I’ve only just gotten back on my feet this month. I definitely hope you feel better soon, and everything works out for you.

    1. I was wondering where you’d gotten off to as I hadn’t heard from you in a while. I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better, and welcome back! I saw your rant on my last post. It’s okay. You’re welcome to vent here whenever ppl’s foolishness works your last nerves, and I love long posts.

I almost always play down my illnesses (It’s just a flesh wound!)but for real this time I wasn’t actually sick. It’s more Mom maintenance, (dialysis) and it takes up a lot of time and makes us both tired, so instead of blogging, I end up falling asleep! So really I’m just slowed down from my usual class four tornado, to a class two.

Thank you. It was definitely a rough 3 months. Mine had to take care of me when I was ill, so I know caring for family can be rough. I’m hoping for your Mom’s improvement.
