James Bond: The Moneypenny Movie

Does anyone remember those action films from the 70s, featuring Black women kicking ass,  and taking names? I know. So few of us do. How far we’ve fallen in the past thirty years. I still maintain that the 70s and 80s was a great time to be an actress because movie makers were fearless in the styles and casting,  in a way they haven’t been since.

I just saw this ad for a new phone for James Bond. Some product placement for the new Spectre movie coming soon. I’m one of the few people willing to admit that I love this current Bond and I especially like some of the race and gender swapping in the movies. The Bond movies are no stranger to having WoC, in some very prominent roles, even sometimes acting as Bond’s equal.

One of the biggest draws, for me, in Skyfall, was Naomie Harris. I’ve enjoyed her film roles, since I saw her kicking ass in  28 Days Later. I was wowed by that. It’s just so rare now, though, to see Black women doing action movies, so I enjoyed this ad as a throwback to the good ol’ days of Foxy Brown and Cleopatra Jones. And it’s a reminder for us that Moneypenny is an agent in her own right. She wasn’t always just M’s secretary. She’s got some skills and I like how she’s willing to call Bond on his shit. She chose to leave the field, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get to see her moving fast in Spectre.

C’mon Hollywood! I need this movie!

Allow it!
